The Beginning of the Bug

Where to start. I will do a quick recap of the last year as it has taken me up till now to get this thing up and running. I got the car in May 2003. I have always been into beetles but somehow never got around to owning one properly. As I was twenty nine, and had LOADS of things to do before I was Thirty I thought it was now or never.

We had aquired an old crappy Golf that Charlie (my lovely wife) was using to ferry the kids she was child minding for, along with our son Finn who was 2 at the time.

I, meanwhile, was using the "propper" car, a pug 306 to go to work etc...and somewhere along the lines we swapped... i still don't know how but we did, and I started driving the Golf and Charlie got the pug...

And then it hit me. "ditch the golf and buy a bug"...inspired

I knew a guy who was into old morris cars and he knew a guy who was into beetles. I arranged to meet him for a drink and told him what I was looking for. It transpired that this guy was the flat mate of Steve (the northerener) Walker : (importer, parts finder, god like welder and writer now for volksworld magazine) He also told me that Steve had just taken hold of a ratty 1962 swedish beetle from a friend who, although being a millionaire, liked driving around in a knackered old bug. Steve had taken it as the guy needed the cash to fund buying a new porsche (flash git) Needless to say I went to meet steve the next day armed with the £1500 I had managed to scrape together from selling Charlies Golf and doing a couple of web commisions intent on buying the start of my dream project.
